Nutrition Facts

How do I find data for a new food?
  1. Click the seach bar that says "Find Another Food". On mobile you can click "Change" from the top menu.
  2. Start typing the name of the food.
  3. Click or tap to select a food that is the closet for what you searched for.
  4. If you can't find the food you are looking for try to change the search term. Change "Green Beans" to "Green String Beans"
  5. If you still can't find the food, you can also try the general site search.
  6. If you have a different name suggestion, please contact us to let us know.
How do I change a serving size?
  1. Click the serving size listed under the name of the food.
  2. A drop down menu will appear.
  3. Click the serving size you want.
  4. The results will automatically update.
How can I change the quantity of a food?
  1. Click the quantity box under the name. This box has a default value of 1.
  2. Enter the quantity you would like as a whole number, decimal, or fraction. I.E.: 2 Medium Apples, 1/2 Medium Apple, 0.333 Medium Apple.
  3. Click Update.
  4. The results will automatically update.
How can I create a custom serving size?
  1. Choose a serving size you want to modify. I.E.: "100 grams", "1 oz"
  2. Change the quantity in the quantity box to create a custom serving size. For example:
    • 3 x 100grams = 300 grams
    • 1/2 x 1oz = 1/2 oz
    • 0.685 x 100grams = 68.5 grams
  3. Click the serving size you want.
  4. The results will automatically update.
How can I delete a food?
  1. Click the "X" in the top right of the food card.
  2. The results will automatically update.
  3. The Nutrition Facts Search tool does not have a delete button. Just search for another food to replace it.
How can I share the nutrition facts?
  1. Click the "Share" button and choose a share option.
  2. You can also copy and paste the link to share.
How can I save a food to favorites?
  1. Be signed in to your account. If you don't have an account, you can create one for free.
  2. Click the "Save Food" button.
  3. Click "Favorite Foods".
  4. Click "Add 1 Item".
  5. The item will be added to your favorites list in the "My Foods" section.
How can I compare a food with another?
  1. Click the "Compare" button under the food name card.
  2. Search for another food to compare.
  3. Click "View Results".
How can I add this food to a recipe?
  1. Click the "Add to Recipe" button under the food name card.
  2. Search to add other foods to your recipe.
  3. Click "View Results".
I can't find a nutrient I am looking for.
  1. Scroll down to "Detailed Nutrition Facts".
  2. Click a section for the nutrient you want to view. I.E.: Vitamins, Minerals, Amino Acids, etc.
  3. Click the header of the section to view the detailed nutrition data.

Comparison Tool

  6. Click "Apply" at the bottom of modal to save your changes.
How can I save a day plan?
  1. Be signed in to your account. If you don't have an account, you can create one for free.
  2. Click the "Save" button.
  3. The day plan will be saved on the "My Foods" page. There it can be edited, or deleted.
  4. You can also add saved day plans to the daily food log.
How can I print a day plan?
  1. Click the Print Icon under the meal plan title.
  2. Click "Click to Print" at the top of the page. Note that sometimes there may be blank pages, this is to prevent a page break accross a meal plan.

Nutrient Ranking Tool

How to Use the Ranking Tool
  1. Using the form select nutrients to rank. You add multiple nutrients and choose whether to rank them by highest or lowest.
  2. Choose which food groups to rank. You can select more than one.
  3. Choose a serving size.
    • Household - View the ranking of foods by a common serving size. I.E. a single carrot, a tsp of salt, etc...
    • 200 cals - View the ranking of foods by calorie. Each food will be listed and sorted by a 200 calorie serving size.
    • 100 grams - View each food by nutrient density. Each food will be listed and sorted by a 100 gram serving size.
    • 100 grams - View each food by nutrient density. Each food will be listed and sorted by a one ounce serving size.
  4. Select database to sort by. You can select more than one. There is a "More info" link by the datases to explain more.

My Foods User Page

How to Use the My Foods Page
  1. On the My Foods Page you can save foods to favorites, you can also organize and edit recipes, meals, and meal plans.
  2. Any favorites, recipes, meals, and day plans you store can be selected when you add foods to the Daily Food Log.
  3. Click the + button to add nutrients to your My Foods table.
How can I add a food or recipe to My Foods?
  1. Click the tab above the table for the appropriate section.
  2. Click the "Add" button on the top left of the food table.
How can I edit a recipe, meal, or day plan?
  1. Click the name of the recipe, meal, or day plan in the table.
  2. Make changes.
  3. Click the "Save" button to overwrite changes or "Save As New" to create a new recipe or meal.

  1. Click the check mark beside a food name to select it. You can select multiple foods.

How do I save data that I logged?
  1. Data is saved automatically, nothing is needed on your part.
How can I save a day plan to reuse it?
  1. Click the "Save to Reuse" button.
  2. You can either choose to select foods to save to a recipe or meal, or save the entire day.
  3. To save the entire day, select that option.
  4. The day plan will be saved on the My Foods page. There it can be edited, or deleted.
  5. You can also add saved day plans to the daily food log by clicking "Day plans" from the add foods modal.
How do I view data from a month or year ago?
  1. Click the calendar icon in the top right of the page and browse to the date you want to view.
How can I print a day plan?
  1. Click the Print Icon on the right of the calendar.
  2. Click "Click to Print" at the top of the page. Note that sometimes there may be blank pages, this is to prevent a page break accross a meal plan.

Weekly Food Log

How to Use the Week View
  1. Be signed in to your account. If you don't have an account, you can create one for free.
  2. Once you have added 7days of meals to the food log you can see the weekly view.
  3. The four nutrients displayed are the summary nutrients for the day. They will be the first four nutrients you select in the Daily Nutrient Summary of the food log.
  4. To change the week, use the left and right arrows, otherwise click the calendar icon in the top menu.
  5. To print click the print icon in the top menu.
  6. NOTE: Nutrient totals can be higher if you treat missing data as equal to 0.

Food Log Trends

How to Use the Trend View
  1. Be signed in to your account. If you don't have an account, you can create one for free.
  2. Once you have added 7 - 28 days of meals to the food log you can see the trend summary.
  3. The default is for 7 days, however, you can use the drop down from the top menu to select 28 days.
  4. Trends for nutrients you selected in the daily nutrient summary will appear.
  5. The percentages will also be set based on the targets you set in the daily nutrient summary.
  6. Statistics for the max, average, and total value will be displayed.
  7. To change the date, click the calendar icon in the top menu.
  8. To print click the print icon in the top menu.
  9. NOTE: Nutrient totals can be higher if you treat missing data as equal to 0.

Enter a Custom Food

  2. Once you have filled in all relevant information, click the "Save" Button at the top of the page.
  3. The food will be saved to your favorites.

How do I Edit a Food?
  1. Change the value in the form on the food edit page.
  2. If it is a food you have not entered, the edits will only appear to you, and will not affect the data of the original food other people see.
